What will the Lead in drinking water program look like in the future?
Once the Lead in Drinking Water screening program has concluded, school districts will be responsible to perform preventative maintenance and any further testing. Pursuant to ARS 15-2002(K), each school district shall develop routine preventative maintenance guidelines for its facilities…, including plumbing systems. ARS 15-2023 (G2) provides a definition of “Routine preventative maintenance.”
For routine preventative maintenance, school districts start by collecting drinking water samples, using the protocol provided, for Initial Testing (assessment phase). Initial Test results greater than 15ppb require confirmation testing. If confirmation test results are greater than 15ppb, require evaluation and corrective action. Once deficiencies are corrected, 3rd round testing (PCA-Post Corrective Action) is required to confirm that corrective actions were successful.
Below is a list of laboratories currently on State Contract for environmental services:
- Should a school district’s initial and confirmation test results indicate a need for corrective action, please contact your SFB Liaison for discussion on best practices and potential Building Renewal Grant funding for remediation. An EA (Executive Authority) may be issued to expedite the approval of funds.
- Be reminded that school districts are required to report any changes to their SFB Building Inventory including schools closed, demolished, or leased. Contact your school districts SFB Liaison with these updates.
- Please contact your suppliers and contractors to request warranties for equipment, materials and labor services used during Lead projects and enter this data into the district’s Facility Management System.
- Please instruct your staff to collect remediation data such as the make, model and cost (M&O or Bond Funds) of all fixtures removed and replaced. Please provide this data to the SFB.
- The SFB suggests that Superintendents use the data and attachments found on this website to present to your Governing Board for their careful consideration to continue this Lead program.
